Work Injuries Workers Compensation

For those who were seriously injured at work, work injuries workers compensation is a viable option to help pay for the costs of treatment and therapies needed to make a full recovery. We accept workers compensation as a method of payment.

Workers’ Compensation for Treatment & Therapy

If you were injured on the job, workers’ compensation may be the best option for paying treatment costs. In Maryland, injured employees are required to have suffered the injury while at work and the injury must have been an “accidental personal injury arising out of and in the course of employment.”

Under such circumstances as these, medical and chiropractic bills may be eligible to be paid for by workers’ compensation insurance or directly by your employer. Many of our patients who are seeking our treatment and therapy services have a lawyer, but know that it is not required to receive treatment at our facility. If you have questions about how to use workers compensation to cover treatment costs for your injury, contact our offices. We are happy to answer any questions that you have.

Common Work Injuries

Slipping, tripping, falling that results in an injury.

Many jobs are inherently dangerous, posing the risk of slipping, falling, or tripping. When you fall and any degree of negligent behavior is evident on behalf of your employer, you may be eligible to file a workers compensation claim. You can usually use workers’ compensation to help pay for the necessary treatments for injuries you sustained as a result of a slip and fall accident. Our team is happy to coordinate with involved parties regarding use of compensation you received for therapy needed for your injuries.

Repetitive Strain Injuries

Repetitive strain injuries (RSI) can easily arise from repetitive motions and overexertion. After extended periods of time completing the same motions, injuries commonly occur in the Fingers and thumbs, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, back, and knees. Any motion or movement, from typing to moving heavy boxes can damage the body over time and cause a repetitive strain injury. RSI may arise from improper lifting technique, lifting, pushing or carrying, assembly line tasks, or even typing without proper ergonomics.

Overexertion Injuries

Conditions seen in more physically demanding jobs such as moving or construction can easily lead to overexertion injuries. Similar to repetitive strain injuries, overexertion injuries arise from normal work duties but are typically preventable. Back injuries such as pulled back muscles, spinal cord damage, slipped discs, or cracked vertebrae can happen as a direct result of overexertion. These injuries are most commonly observed among workers doing heavy manual labor based jobs.

Equipment and falling objects striking workers and resulting injury.

For example, if you work in shipping and receiving of a grocery store, a shipment of food that shifted during transit could unexpectedly fall on you and break your knee. When struck by a falling object, or hit by a piece of heavy machinery, the resulting injuries can be severe and require an extended therapy program in order to regain full functionality in the area that was injured.

Crashes or collisions involving work vehicles.

Regardless of safety measures that are in place, when vehicles are an integral part of your daily work responsibilities, accidents are likely to eventually happen. Work injuries involving vehicles range in severity and may require physical therapy to recover fully.

What Common Work Injuries Are Treated With Physical Therapy?

A work injury is any injury that happens on the job. It may also refer to a disease or medical condition you developed due to working conditions. Even jobs that don’t involve a lot of physical activity may risk developing an illness or injury. For example, someone processing data in a computer may be sitting for a long time and develop a disease associated with a sedentary lifestyle or could develop a repetitive motion injury, like carpal tunnel syndrome.

If you’ve suffered one of these common workplace injuries, physical therapy may be part of a holistic treatment solution to get you feeling better and back to work soon.

Tendinitis

This is a common overuse injury, sometimes referred to as “tennis elbow,” although it can affect any joint. It develops when someone performs repetitive motions during the workday, and, over time, the tendons around the most-used joints become inflamed. Infection is also possible when tendons become inflamed. Physical therapy, especially early intervention, can help prevent further damage.

Back Pain

Lower back pain is another reason many sedentary workers schedule physical therapy sessions. It often results from improper lifting and carrying techniques or overuse. Pain in the lower back and hips can make even the simplest tasks, like standing and walking for long periods of time, impossible.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs in the median nerve of the wrist when the nerve is pinched, or the area is compressed. Anyone from a factory worker to a legal secretary may be subject to developing it if their daily job duties involve repeated motions of the wrist, fingers, and forearms.

Auto Accidents

Drivers or those who operate a company vehicle regularly are at risk of getting hurt in a crash, either on the road, in a delivery area, or on a factory floor or job site. Car accident injuries, like whiplash, often involve overextension of tendons and ligaments and fractures or broken bones. Physical therapy is often used to help ease these conditions and help the client regain their range of motion and mobility after they heal.

Muscle And Ligament Sprains

A slip or fall, improper use of equipment, repetitive motion, or overexertion can all lead to a strained or sprained wrist, ankle, knee, or shoulder. Correcting the root cause of the strain or sprain through physical therapy can help you heal better and get back to work sooner.

How Physical Therapy Can Help Treat Work Injuries

Early intervention is the key to successful physical therapy after a work injury or developing an occupational illness. We may use a combination of massage therapy, strengthening exercise, manual therapy and manipulation, or electrical stimulation. Your physical therapy sessions are designed with your condition and goals in mind.
